The journal has been published since 1991, and until 1993 it was called "Bulletin of Hypnology and Psychotherapy," established by the International Institute of Human Potential Abilities on the initiative of its director, Professor Grigoriev G.I. During this period, the editorial board (editorial collegium) included renowned psychotherapists and psychiatrists, including B.D. Karvasarsky, Bul P.I., and Alexeev G.I.
In 1993, it was renamed "Bulletin of Psychotherapy," and since 2008, it has been founded by the Federal State Budgetary Institution "Nikiforov Russian Center of Emergency and Radiation Medicine, EMERCOM of Russia" with Professor Rybnikov V.Yu. serving as the chief editor from 2006 to 2022. The editorial board included distinguished psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and medical psychologists, such as A.A. Aleksandrov, Yu.A. Aleksandrovsky, R.M. Granovskaya, G.I. Grigoriev, V.I. Evdokimov, N.G. Neznanov, M.M. Reshetnikov, E.I. Chekhlatai, V.K. Shamrey, and others.
In 2022, the Editorial Board was expanded to include prominent experts in psychiatry, narcology, and psychotherapy from the post-Soviet space - S.A. Altynbekov (Almaty, Kazakhstan) and Ashurov Z.Sh (Tashkent, Uzbekistan).
The journal is a scientific peer-reviewed publication and has been included in the Higher Attestation Commission list since 2003 for publishing materials of doctoral and candidate dissertations.
